David and Janine Lowe were both born and raised as first generation San Diego natives. While enjoying successful careers, they raised two children and lived the Southern California lifestyle. When both children had flown the coop, they decided to enjoy a slower more rustic pace out in the East San Diego County, in the small community of Warner Springs. They built their dream home and settled into retirement. Like many Boomers though, the inactivity did not suit them and so David chose to try his hand at a new hobby, winemaking.
They were first introduced to fine wine by friends in the early 1980’s and it was love at first sip. Throughout the years, their knowledge and love of wine increased in part due to travels to Napa, the Central Coast, Washington and Oregon but also due to a genuine thirst for knowledge of winemaking, viticulture and oenology. In 2005, David planted a small vineyard on their property and began in earnest to study the history and culture of winemaking. 2007 was their first harvest and the idea of owning a winery had definitely taken root.
In early 2011 they took their passion for wine to the next level and Sierra Roble Winery and Vineyard was born. They purchased several acres near their home on the north east slope of Palomar Mountain. 2000 vines were ordered and the dream began to take shape. In mid-2012, the new property was planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec. Shortly thereafter, the tasting room and winery were built.
Now with the help of their children Richard and April, their son in law Bill and of course their granddaughter Ava, they plan to grow and flourish. Their boutique winery will specialize in traditional Bordeaux varietals and they hope to entice your palate with some of the finest handcrafted wines available anywhere.
We hope that you will visit us often and we look forward to introducing you to our wines.
Vaya con Vino,
David and Janine Lowe
